Vernon Johnson

Vernon K. Johnson, 68, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at The Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Born June 28, 1943, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George and Sarah Johnson. He was the husband of Mary Louise Johnson (nee Cather).

Vernon was semi-retired but enjoyed driving school buses for Frederick County.  Previously, he drove school buses in Howard County.

He was an Army veteran and served in Viet Nam. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping, auto racing, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Rus Eyring of Catonsville, Maryland; son Michael Johnson and daughter-in-law Shelly Johnson of Buffalo, Missouri; daughter Nina Cavey and son-in-law Richard Cavey of Lansdowne, Maryland; daughter Dawn Greene and son-in-law Brandon Greene of Hagerstown, Maryland; ten grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter.

Also surviving are brother Wayne Johnson and sister-in-law Jan Johnson of Churchton, Maryland; brother Stanley Johnson and sister-in-law Fran Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; and sister Elizabeth Ayres and brother-in-law Thomas Ayres of New Windsor, Maryland.

Family will welcome friends on Wednesday and Thursday, March 21 and 22, from 3-5pm and from 7-9pm at Ambrose Funeral Home, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Road, Lansdowne, MD.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23 at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Meadowridge Cemetary in Elkridge.
