Theresa L. “Terri” Summers was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away after an extended battle with numerous health ailments on July 5, 2022 at the age of 62. Terri was born to Lawrence and Loretta Raynor on September 21, 1959. She spent her childhood growing up in southwest Baltimore, first attending St. Clements School, and then moving on to graduate Lansdowne High School in 1978. After graduating high school, she entered the working world and often spoke about how she operated large mainframe computers. Her career life was short-lived as her destined calling was always family life. Terri married Joseph in 1981, her first child came shortly thereafter in July 1982, followed by two more in 1986 and 1988. She would spend the next four decades caring for so many that needed her love and support. Terri cared for her siblings as they grew up, and again took them in and offered them support as they entered adulthood. She took in her father and provided care after he underwent major heart surgery. She provided care to her mother-in-law, Joan, as she battled and eventually succumbed to cancer. She took care of her mother’s affairs for over 15 years, and then as her mother’s health declined, Terri dedicated all of her efforts tending to Loretta’s needs, while battling cancer herself. She always had the energy to provide care when needed.
In addition to these efforts, Terri yielded endless love, devotion and commitment to all three of her children. Whether nurturing their education, ensuring they had the best opportunities, spending years cheering them on at their numerous sporting events, and supporting them as they grew into young adults, she was always there to offer her support and love. When grandchildren came along, her commitment remained unwavering, and she showed just as much devotion and love to them as she did her own children. It is difficult to comprehend where all the energy and drive came from.
While hard to imagine finding time for anything else outside her dedication to family life, Terri enjoyed her time at the beach, specifically family trips to Ocean City, MD and Nags Head, NC. She expanded her boundaries a bit later in life, travelling across the country and enjoying time in America’s southwest, the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, coastal Maine, the Caribbean, and fell in love with Moraine Lake in the Canadian Rockies. For several years, she enjoyed traveling the mid-Atlantic searching out stories and information on her ancestral roots. She became fascinated with some of the stories and loved passing the information along to relatives and friends. Terri also had knack for decorating around the house. To her, there were like 15 seasons a year, not just the typical four, and Christmas time was her favorite. After Thanksgiving passed each year, the next several weeks were like walking into Mr. and Mrs. Clause’s residence. Terri also found passion in several other areas including her gardens, the church and school communities, day trips with the kids, and spoiling her beloved dogs, namely Pepper, Spirit, Maxi, and Harley.
Terri is the beloved wife of Joseph Summers; loving mother of Douglas (his wife Elizabeth), Jason (his wife Kristin), & Tracey (her husband Michael); caring grandmother of Colton, Chase, & Maddox; cherished sister of Virginia, Lawrence, & the late Deneise. Terri is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
