Sharyn Buccalo

January 5, 1947 — October 17, 2013

Buccalo, Sharyn. The family of Sharyn Luckey Buccalo of Denton, MD is sad to announce her passing on October 17, 2013 of Acute Leukemia. Born on January 5, 1947, she is survived by her husband of 44 years, Alfred (Al) Buccalo and two children, daughter Beth Ann Weimer, her husband Bill, and their children Emma and Matthew of Groveport, Ohio and her son Dominic Buccalo, his wife Nicole and their daughter Magdalayna of Bowling Green, Ohio. Also survived by two sisters, Hildred Kay Ritenour Dingus (Paul) of Mount Jackson, Virginia and Angela Joanne Rowland (John) of Arbutus, Maryland, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Emma Jean Luckey of Mingo Junction, Ohio.

Sharyn was a 1965 graduate of Mingo High School and a 1967 graduate of Ohio Valley School of Nursing. She was the first daughter of a fellow graduate; her mother having graduated from the nursing school in 1945. Sharyn worked as an RN but went on to earn a BSN from Ashland University, a MSN from Case Western Reserve and a Master's Degree in Public Health Nursing from Case Western Reserve. Her life-long love of reading and learning remained with her until her death. Sharyn never travelled without at least three books and often more, even when going to the store. (Always time to get a few pages in)

She and Al travelled to many foreign countries as well as the United States, loving Hawaii especially. On their many family vacations to Chincoteague, VA, they decided to move to the Eastern Shore after Al's retirement from the Ohio State Patrol; settling in Denton, MD. Sharyn worked at several hospitals after moving to the Eastern Shore including Easton, Chestertown and Dorchester. Her love of nursing was as strong as her love of reading and she taught several classes at the Chesapeake Community College on the shore.

Sharyn's favorite bumper sticker "There is no life west of the Chesapeake Bay" - she believed it.
