It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samuel Waweru Mbatia on April 18, 2025, at the age of 63.
Born in Kenya, East Africa, the youngest son of Lee James Mbatia Wanjui and Isabel Wairimu Wanjui, Samuel later moved to the United States, where he earned a degree in Accounting from the University of the District of Columbia. Though trained in accounting, he spent much of his life as a professional driver—a role he embraced with pride, integrity, and a ready smile for every client.
Samuel was known for his loving nature and his infectious sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to lift spirits and bring laughter into any room. He was deeply devoted to his family, a loyal friend, and someone whose warmth and wit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Okode; his brother Frank; and his sisters Cecilia, Lucy, Monica, and Maggie, his stepchildren, nieces and nephews. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Margaret, Jacinta, and his twin sister, Mumbi.
Memorial services to celebrate Samuel’s life in Baltimore, MD and Nairobi, Kenya will be announced at a later date. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his kindness and joy.
