CAPT Robert Werling USN RET died November 21, 2014 at the Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, MD. Robert was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Alfred and Matilda Werling on March 3, 1937. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay, and his wonderful son Todd, and his wife, Colleen, and his cherished grandchildren, Alexis and Hunter. He is survived by his dear sister, Gail Wallin and her children, Linda, Scott, and Diane and their respective families. Surviving also is his loved and admired mother-in-law Mary Louise Jenkins and her children Sherry, Charlene, Chuck and their families who welcomed him so graciously into the family 50 years ago. Robert's beloved daughter, Stacey, preceded him in death in 2010.
Robert Werling graduated from the prestigious Brooklyn Technological High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Navy soon after. He spent nearly 40 years in the Navy rising from a lowly seaman through all of the ranks, including Warrant Officer, and ending his naval career as an LDO Captain. He also managed to earn a college degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA while on active duty.
In retirement, Robert enjoyed going to auctions, refinishing or cleaning up whatever he brought home, collecting tools, kerosene lamps, Dinky toys, his F 150 truck, his farm in Missouri and being with his friends and family. Robert is gone too soon, but will live on in our memories.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. at a later date still to be determined.
