On February 29, 2016, Pat Jauquet entered eternal life, surrounded by her family. Pat received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick shortly before her death. She died at St. Agnes Hospital; cause of death was an abdominal aneurysm. Her Catholic faith and her family were constant sources of strength and joy throughout her life.
Patricia Ellen Debaugh was born on July 7, 1943, the first child of Henry Albert Debaugh and Ellen Hamilton Debaugh, and was baptized at St. Mark Parish, Catonsville. She grew up in West Hills and Catonsville and attended St. Agnes School and Seton High School, graduating in 1961. After a year with the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, MD, she completed college at Mt. St. Agnes/Loyola College and became an elementary school teacher.
She met the one love of her life, William “Bill” Jauquet, at a Catholic Alumni picnic on Memorial Day in 1969. After they proposed to one another, the next question they asked each other was, “How many children do you want?” Bill said seven, Pat said five. Bill and Pat exchanged marriage vows at St. Mark’s Chapel on June 20, 1970, and God blessed their union with five children.
Pat gave birth to their first child in 1971, and became a stay at home mom. The family moved to their home on Winans Avenue in Halethorpe in 1977, just before the birth of their fifth child. This address would be her home, the family home, and a place of many meetings, prayer groups, and family gatherings. As their five children grew, Pat returned to school and earned her RN and later her BSN. After a variety of nursing positions, she became a school nurse, first for Baltimore County Public Schools, then at Holy Family School, Randallstown. When she retired in 2005, she became a full-time grandmother, as well as a part-time nurse and counselor at Pregnancy Center West where she served as chairman of the Board for several years.
For many years, Pat served as a catechist at St. Lawrence Parish, Woodlawn and later Our Lady of Victory, Arbutus. Pat and Bill have been active parishioners of Our Lady of Victory since 1978. She and her husband traveled regularly to Wisconsin and eventually to Europe, Ecuador, and China. She also delighted in her Irish heritage and traveled there many times visiting relatives. Always a voracious reader, she especially liked historical and science fiction. Her Kindle was a constant companion. Pat also pursued sewing, quilting, and later in life, coloring.
Pat is survived by Bill, her husband of 45 years who was ordained a deacon in the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 1996, and their five children: Mary and her husband Edward Kurek, Rebecca and her husband Erik Shumaker, Elizabeth and her husband James Kehrman, all of Catonsville, MD; Joseph and his wife Magaly Jauquet of Halethorpe, MD; and William and his wife Heather Jauquet of Gaithersburg, MD. She is survived by their 22 grandchildren: Anthony, Joseph, Michael, Katherine, and Teresa Kurek; Matthew, Sarah, and Benjamin Shumaker; Emma, Rachael, Megan, Bridget, and Johanna Kehrman; Martin, Peter, Sophia, Claudia, and Victor Jauquet; and William, Lillian, John, and Elizabeth Jauquet .
Pat is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Debaugh-Stone and her husband Theo of Columbia, MD; her sister Juliana Heath of Sun City Center, FL; her brother Henry Debaugh and his wife Donna of Oella, MD. Her brother William died in 1981. She is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law Donald and Susan Jauquet of Green Bay, WI; Barbara Rawling and husband Tom of Waunekee, WI; John and Kathy Jauquet, James Jauquet, and Joseph and Michelle Jauquet all of Green Bay, WI; and Debra Jauquet of Danvers, MA.
