Mary Linda Mertes

Mary Linda "Lin" Mertes (nee Miller), age 83, passed away on February 3, 2025 in Towson, MD. She was the wife of the late David J. Mertes for 49 years until his death.

Raised with her siblings on an Elkridge farm by their late grandparents, Lindsay and Regina Coates, Linda would become a mainstay of Halethorpe for 55 years. Throughout her 20 year employment with UMBC, she worked in several departments before retiring from the Office of the Registrar. Throughout the years, Linda assisted with the Arbutus Arts Festival and various events at Ascension School & Church. Recognized for her warmth and helpful manner, Linda loved gardening, creating crafts and assisting her neighbors. However, her greatest joy came from getting together with family and she delighted in hosting holiday gatherings in her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Colleen Donlin (Brian) and Lisa Roden, her siblings Robert Miller Sr. and Anne L. Scarza (Vincent), along with nephews Robert Miller Jr., Robert Mertes Jr., Brian Miller (Kathy), and niece Teresa Mertes-Huber (Frank).

In addition to her husband and grandparents, she was predeceased by her mother, Mary Elizabeth "Peg" Smith, and her sister, Rose M. Mertes (Robert).

A public viewing will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9pm at Ambrose Funeral Home, 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd. Arbutus. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5990 Old Washington Rd, Elkridge on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10 am.

A private inurnment to be held at a later date.
