Maritta and her beloved late husband Fred had their first dance in a festival tent in Sudlengern, Germany in August 1951. Their families immediately predicted the relationship would be special. They were so right. The two married in 1956, then embarked by steamship on a 63-year honeymoon to America.
At home, Maritta was happiest when her cherished Sycamore Avenue home was filled with children and grandchildren, loved ones to care for and fuss over. We were blessed to gather such a table for her 90th birthday this spring. After raising kids, she studied pre-school education and began teaching. “Miss Maritta” was known and loved by generations of children and parents served by the Holy Nativity Lutheran Church Pre-K program. When she met her students years later, she always remembered their names and had a story about them.
Maritta was the loving mother of Frank and his wife Lisa, David and his wife Mary, and Wil and his wife Roxanne; cherished Oma of Aaron, Matthew, James, Max, & Anneliese and Uroma of Mackenzie; preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two siblings; also survived by many loving relatives and friends. A viewing will be held at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church on Monday, June 10th from 1pm - 3pm with a funeral service beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Holy Nativity Lutheran Church.
