Marcella Ann Coe, 76, was called home by the Lord on September 25, 2021. Although she still had more living to do, God had other plans for her, as He always did.
A true “baby boomer”, Marcella was born on April 10, 1945 in Washington, DC to Edward and Ethel Frederick after Edward’s service in the US Navy. She grew up in the neighborhood of Landover Hills and graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, MD in 1963.
Although she resided for a time in Fredericksburg, VA and spent several years in Raleigh, NC, she lived most of her life in her home state of Maryland, in places like Millersville, Prince Frederick and Arbutus.
Her working years spanned many sectors, including sales, publishing, insurance and real estate, but her best and favorite career was being a mom, to both kids and pets alike. She was the proud mother of four children, Dana, Tonya, Fadra and Aaron, and even raised one more, Johnny, as her own later in life. (God always liked to throw her the curveballs!)
She had the chance to travel extensively in Asia when visiting her son, Dana, and saw places like China and Vietnam.
Marcella was a one-of-a-kind individual who cared deeply about people and animals. She raised German Shepherds, bulldogs, basset hounds, more cats than you can count and would even stop for turtles stranded in the middle of the road.
She had a keen eye for bargains but still loved a good steak and lobster dinner. She loved conversation and could talk to anyone about almost anything. She had a smile that could light up a room and the personality to match. She was a force to be reckoned with and fought the idea of slowing down every step of the way. Her spunk and vitality inspired many and brought us joy and laughter.
We take comfort in knowing that her faith was strong and she knew where she was going when she left this earth. And we know we’ll see her again soon.
“…whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:14
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ethel Frederick. She is survived by her four children: Dana Coe of Hangzhou, China, Tonya Goodnow (Steve) of Arbutus, MD, Fadra Nally (Sean) of Eldersburg, MD and Aaron Coe (Gel) of Bethesda, MD; and by her three grandchildren: Evan Nally of Eldersburg, MD, James Coe of Hangzhou, China and Grace Coe of Hangzhou, China.
