Lydia Altomare
October 20, 1922 — June 15, 2016
On June 15, 2016, Lydia A. Altomare, loving wife of the late John J. Altomare; devoted mother of John O. Altomare, Victoria Altomare, and Mark Altomare; cherished grandmother of John “Joe” Altomare, Troy Altomare, Jennifer Altomare, Kara Altomare, Lisa C. Altomare who preceded her in death and great grandchildren, Sophia, Shayne, and Sabatian; and dear sister of the late Mary Louise Brownfield and John DeGardeyn Jr. She was born in Pt. Marion, PA to Mary Verset and John DeGardeyn Sr. She graduated from South Side Hospital nursing school in Pittsburg, PA and worked as a RN during her career. She retired from Bon Secour Hospital in 1984.
She loved to read and would often read the first chapter of a novel, then the last chapter, then she would finish the book. Mom did crossword puzzles, loved to fish, enjoyed helping others and feeding the feral cats in the neighborhood. Mom and Dad loved being at their cabin in WV and participating with their friends at the Milam Community Center in Peru Hollow, WV.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Family and friends may call at the family owned Ambrose Funeral Home, Inc., 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd. on Tuesday, June 21, from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral will be held at the same location on Wednesday at 11 AM.
