Lauren Marie Sterner

Lauren Marie Sterner passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, January 12th 2025 at the age of 44. Lauren is survived by her children, Alexander (age 16) and Penelope (age 14). She was so proud of her children. They were her world.

Lauren was raised in Arbutus and loved her hometown. She lost her mother, Betty Sterner, in November 2023, with whom she was very close. Her father, Stephen Sterner, continues to live in Arbutus and is devastated by this loss. Lauren was always “daddy’s little girl”. Lauren was the youngest of three children and is survived by her brother and sister-in-law (Ryan Sterner and Marina Smelyanskaya), sister and brother-in-law (Erin Hager and David Hager), and 6 nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly (Watson Sterner, Macy Hager, Simon Hager, Tatum Hager, Mishka Sterner, and Marie Sterner). Her loving Godmother and Aunt, Jean Reid, was with her as she passed on. She is also survived by a large extended family and many life-long friends. She touched so many lives and will be deeply missed by so many. 

Lauren loved holidays and celebrating others. Her warmth, kindness, smile, and hugs will be remembered fondly by the many, many friends and family members whose lives she touched. Lauren was proud to complete her bachelor’s degree in 2021 (with a story written by her University highlighting her journey found here). Lauren worked for Northrop Grumman for over 10 years and was continually promoted and recently won an award for her performance. She loved her work family and was proud of her career.

Viewings will be held at the Ambrose Funeral Home in Lansdowne (2719 Hammonds Ferry Road) on Thursday and Friday, January 16th and 17th, from 3 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm. A memorial service will be held at Ascension Catholic Church in Arbutus (1527 Potomac Avenue) on Saturday January 18th 10:00am with a wake to follow. The family is establishing a fund for her children’s future. Details will follow.
