Joyce Sturiale O'Hara
December 31, 1936 — December 18, 2015
Joyce Elizabeth Sturiale O'Hara (Duringer) died peacefully in Towson, Maryland on December 18, 2015 at the age of 78. Joyce is survived by her brother, Paul Duringer, children Steve, Susie Quinn, Sandy Walsh, and Scott and their spouses, Kristin, Tim, Matt, and Sandy. Joyce loved her nine grandchildren (Zach, Eric, Chris, Emma, Luke, Nick, Mallory, Ben, and Sophie) and they will miss her tremendously.
Joyce was born in Lackawana, NY on December 31, 1936 to Edmund and Mary Duringer. The Duringer family moved to suburban Washington, DC when she was young and she graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in Washington, DC. Throughout her life, Joyce was proud to be a St. Patrick's alumnus. Joyce married Fred Sturiale on October 1, 1960 and they spent 27 years together in marital bliss raising their 4 children. After Fred's death in 1987, Joyce was able to find a wonderful man in Frank O'Hara whom she married in 1998. Frank passed away in 2013.
In addition to being a terrific mom, Joyce was able to establish a phenomenal professional career. She rose through the ranks and eventually retired as an executive at Navy Federal Credit Union. To this day, some of her best friends are the ones she worked with at Navy Federal. Joyce EARNED her Associates Degree from PGCC while in her 50s. Many of the students in class thought she was the professor, little did they know she was going to be the curve buster. Joyce was a very generous lady. She donated her time, talent, and treasures to the local community and her beloved Catholic Church.
A viewing will be held at Ambrose Funeral Home, Inc. 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd., Arbutus on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Catholic Community at Relay, 5052 Cedar Ave, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10 AM. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Joyce will privately be buried alongside her husband Fred at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Baltimore.
