Joseph R. VanAelst, age 82, peacefully passed away at his home on June 23rd, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to late Emil T. VanAelst, Sr. & the late Mary Hammer. Joe started his career as a fireman at the Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department where he worked for over 15 years. He then went on to become a printer working for a printing company. Joe had many interests which included working in his yard, collecting Hess Trucks, going on cruises, & attending car shows.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn VanAelst; loving father of Michelle Freeman (& her husband Michael); cherished grandfather of M.J. Freeman & Adalynn Freeman; caring brother of the late Emil VanAelst, Jr., the late Robert VanAelst, & the late Dorothy Houck; dear brother-in-law of Gretchen Greenlee (& her husband Mike). Joe is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, & many loving friends.
Family & friends may gather at the family owned & operated Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Rd., Lansdowne, MD 21227 for a public visitation on Tuesday, June 28th from 3:00-5:00pm & 7:00-9:00pm. A funeral ceremony will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 29th at 11:30am. Interment will immediately follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
