Joseph Herman Drasal, Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 30, 2025 at his home in Frederick, Maryland. Joseph finally boarded the Jesus Bus. He was born in Baltimore City on August 10, 1948, the son of the late Joseph Frank Drasal (aka Dressel) and late Ida May Drasal (nee Ruoff).
Joseph is the beloved husband of over 56 years to Susan Elizabeth Sipe Drasal; devoted father of Joseph H. Drasal, Jr. and his wife Kelly and the late Kristinia May Drasal; cherished grandfather of Rylie May Fuller of Westminster, Paige Marie Reisner of Marriottsville, and Chase J. Drasal of Marriottsville; also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Joanne Diehl (Dressel) and sister in-law Jo Ann Reichert (Sipe).
Joseph was baptized, made his first communion, and confirmation at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where he graduated from 8th grade. From there he was accepted to attend Poly High School and was proud to be a graduate of the Class of 1966. Joe and Susan were eventually married at St. Wenceslaus on June 22, 1968. While attending Baltimore City Community College, he worked for Acme Markets. Employed with Superior Novelty Company (Ellicott City) for 19 years, Kayboys Empire Paper Company (Arbutus), and finishing his career at Elman Packaging and Design (Shady Grove). Joe and Susan’s first home was on Birch Avenue in Arbutus which they purchased the month prior to their wedding. After eight years they had a home built in Woodlawn where they attended St. Gabriel Parish, formerly Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Joe was co-chair for his church carnival for many years. Being a member of the Woodlawn Knights of Columbus Council 5466 was a joy for him. As a member he rose through the chairs becoming Grand Knight. He obtained his 3rd and 4th degrees and was appointed by various State Grand Knights to serve as an officer on the Maryland State Teams. Joe and Susan traveled throughout Maryland meeting many of their lifelong friends. An avid bowler, Joe was in the same league at Southwest Lanes for over 25 years. Joe bowled with the Semi-Pro bowlers traveling on the East Coast. He was chairman of Woodlawn Baseball and Soccer programs and also served as president of Woodlawn Recreation and Parks. Nine years ago, Joe and Susan relocated to Frederick County at Spring Ridge Senior Apartments where he fit in perfectly, him calling Bingo when needed. Joe is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, brother-laws, sister-in laws, cousins and other loving family and friends. Susan and Joe, Jr. would like to acknowledge Shagufta Javed, his devoted friend and caregiver, Edgar Haynes, PSD of Knights of Columbus who weekly brought Joe Communion for more than a year, the staff at Frederick Health Hospital, Frederick Home Health, Frederick Hospice and Autumn Lake (formerly Genesis) of Ballenger Creek, Abuzz Healthcare Services, Bayada Home Health Care, Mason Dixon Mobile Medicine, his former physician Kenneth Williams M.D. (Catonsville), Hites V. Patel M.D. F. A. C. C., Sibte A. Kazmi, M.D. most gracious for Jennifer E. Mullendor, DPM, FACFAS who worked so hard to save his feet.
A visitation will begin at 10am on Friday April 4th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, Md 21784 with a Mass of Christian celebration beginning at 11am officiated by Rev. Christopher P. Moore. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of your choice.
