John Kellum, Sr.
July 10, 1935 — April 27, 2016
Baltimore - John Dennis Kellum Sr., 80, of Fleetwood Avenue passed away Wednesday, April 27th early in the morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Towson. He was dedicated to his family, friends, hunting, fishing and his hard work ethic. He was full of life being snappy and opinionated whether you liked it or not. Sonny, as he was affectionately called was beyond compassionate to those closest to him although he never sought recognition for it.
He was born July 10th, 1935, the adopted son of the late Robert L. Kellum & Elizabeth Hogarth Kellum. He was the 3rd generation of Kellums that worked for Bethlehem Steel and in 1997 after 41 years he retired in the Tin Mill as an electrician & union shop steward. John was the beloved husband of Mary Louise Ward of 55 years before her passing in 2009.
Surviving are two sons, John D. Kellum Jr & Douglas M. Kellum; two daughters Denise L. Gallagher & Donna M. Wertz. Two grandsons Jason Gallagher & John D. Kellum III; and two granddaughters Jessica Gallagher Flynn & Hazel N. Wertz. One great grandson Grant E. Gallagher & one great granddaughter Violet R. Flynn.
The family will hold a memorial service in the near future and burial of John & Mary in Parkwood Cemetery to follow thereafter.
