Jim Stubbs, Pig Towner, : His Life November 23, 1916 - April 15, 2012

Jim Stubbs was the smallest boy in the St. Paul's choir on Washington Blvd. when he grew up in Pig Town. A Southern High School student during the "Depression" when his father lost his job, Jim had to go work at Montgomery Wards at 16 as an order filler. His excellent work habits earned him a buyers opportunity at Montgomery Wards "Mahogany Row". His physical accomplishments included playing center for the Collegiate Football Team in Pig Town. In 1941 he married Dottie Stubbs, the daughter of Bettye Mills, who owned a nightclub on the infamous "Block" on Baltimore Street. During World War II, Jim served in the Army as a gunner. After the war, he became the day manager at his mother-in-law's nightclub. After the death of his mother-in-law, the nightclub was sold and he worked as Laundry Manager at several establishments including Fulton Laundry and St. Agnes Hospital. He retired in 1983 and worked as an honorable volunteer as "teller" for Christ Lutheran Church - Inner Harbor. He was a life member of the Masonic Order, Corinthian  Lodge and Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Stubbs and two daughters the Rev. Bettye Wolinski and her husband, David Wolinski and Sherrye Bolan and her husband, Garry Bolan, one granddaughter Jodi Wolinski and one brother Richard Stubbs.

Relatives and friends may call at the family owned and operated AMBROSE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd, Halethorpe, MD 21227 on Wednesday April 18, 2012 from 5:00-8:00pm. Where a Masonic Memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30pm. Funeral Services for Jim will be held Thursday April 19, 2012 12:30 pm at the Christ Lutheran Church - Inner Harbor 701 S. Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21230. Interment to immediately follow services in the Loudon Park Cemetery, Wilkens Ave. At the family's request donations may be directed to the Christ Lutheran Church - Inner Harbor.
