Jim Conklin

April 1, 1946 — October 29, 2024

Jim Conklin passed away on October 29, 2024 (78) at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Maryland. He was born on April 1, 1946 in Southampton, NY, son of Alfred Conklin and Mildred Conklin, and brother of Donna Freeman. He was married to Sandy Conklin just short of 50 years. They lived most of their life in East Hampton, New York where they raised their children and were active members of the community. He worked in the family business Home Sweet Home Moving and Storage until he retired in 2006.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, friend, and “Pop Pop”. He loved animals and his two current labs, Cadbury and Libby, were with him when he passed. Jim was involved with the East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. He was also involved for many years with the East Hampton Lions Club. Jim’s love for Sandy, and the organizations she loved, and the East Hampton community resulted in him frequently volunteering at events for the LVIS and St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton. As part of volunteering for the LVIS, Jim and Sandy would feed the ducks at the East Hampton Nature Trail and they would take the grandkids whenever possible. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.

Jim brought warmth and laughter to every conversation with jokes and stories. He was known for his amazing grilling of hamburgers and steaks and friends were always welcome at the table. He enjoyed boating and fishing. He loved to entertain on his boat and would often take people on trips to Sag Harbor for the afternoon or Greenport for lunch, and no one could anchor at a better spot than him to watch the Boys Harbor Fireworks.

Jim is survived by his wife Sandy Conklin and his two labs, Cadbury and Libby. His two children, Richard Conklin of Texas, and Suzanne Conklin Tabor and husband Adam Tabor of Maryland. Three grandchildren: Lincoln Tabor, Madeline Tabor and Trent Tabor of Maryland.

Jim’s remains will be interred at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton NY with a service on April 26th, 2025 at 1 pm. In Jim’s memory, please consider donating to the East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department.
