Peacefully on October 19, 2020, Jacob F. Clevenger, Jr. passed away. He was the beloved husband of Marie Clevenger; loving father of Brian (Lenore), Chip (Carol), Darrell (Susan) Clevenger, Sheri Alascio (Tom), and Thomas Weedon (Leah); cherished granddad of Dustin, Scott, Hannah, Rachel, Joe, and TJ; dear brother of Dottie, Pauline, Shirley, & Evelyn; preceded in death by his sister Jeanie; also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Jacob F. Clevenger, Jr. was many things to a lot of people in his eighty five years. He was a son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, coach, and fishing partner. His greatest role however, was as a helplessly devoted husband that loved his wife Marie. Jake and Marie were inseparable, enjoyed each other’s company, and were especially proud of their six grandchildren.
Early in his life, Jake hunted rabbit with dogs that he kept and help train. Later, he became an avid Chesapeake Bay fisherman and learned to apply his skills offshore after moving to Charleston, South Carolina. He also tried his hand at catching shrimp in Charleston’s coastal bays, astounding his friends with tales, and pictures, of coolers full that many enjoyed.
He was known to hundreds of boys and girls as “Mr. Jake” from his decades’ long coaching career for football (Anne Arundel Gridiron Rebels), and baseball and softball (North Glen Athletic Association). Mr. Jake had a gruff exterior, barking plays and orders to his players, but was just as likely to give vigorous encouragement when needed and a pat on the back for a job well done.
Jake Clevenger was an honest, hard working man his entire life. He was quick with an opinion, fond of a good joke, and enjoyed telling old fishing and sports stories over a couple of cold beers. He will be sorely missed by many people, including family, friends, and Marie.
Family members and friends will gather in the Lansdowne location from 2-4 & 6-8PM. Services will be private.
