Dr. Howard Hamilton Hine Jr. DVM, Pete, as his friends and family knew him, passed peacefully as he slept, June 1st, 2022. He was the oldest son of the late Howard Hamilton Hine Sr. and Mary Margaret Hine (nee Rettberg), of Oregon Avenue in Arbutus.
A graduate of Catonsville High school in 1951, Pete attended Johns Hopkins University for two years before being accepted as the youngest student in the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary program in 1954. He graduated in 1957 and earned the prestigious Borden Award as the top student in his class.
In 1959 he opened the Arbutus Veterinary Hospital where he cared for small animals and pets of the community for generations. He also mentored many successful veterinarians over the years who learned by his side. He retired in 2003 after 44 years of practice.
An avid sports fan and outdoorsman, Pete was often found in the field, on the shooting range, or lacrosse field as a little league coach for many years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Angela (nee McGuirk), son Howard Hine, III, and daughter Susan Clark. He is survived by his youngest son, Lee Hamilton Hine; grandchildren, Madison, Hunter and Joseph (Skeet); brother, Richard (Dick) and sister-in-law, Joan; son-in-law Nigel Clark; nieces, nephews, as well as extended family and countless friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD on Saturday, June 11th at 10am. In lieu of flowers at the final resting place, please consider donating resources to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).
