A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, son, and brother, Harry Beekey Newman III, 82, of Adelphi, MD passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones on August 21, 2019. He was born October 13, 1936 in New Castle, DE and resided in Adelphi, MD for 49 years. He attended Penns Grove High School in New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Eleanor, when he was 16 years old. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant third class and received an honorable discharge in 1958. He was employed as a technical illustrator, and notably worked on the Honest John Missile System at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. He also worked at Westinghouse, Operations Research Inc., and Newton Street Graphics. He eventually opened his own illustrating company, HBNIII Graphics Inc., and was primarily contracted by the National Institute of Health.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Eleanor Rhea Newman; son Michael Newman and wife Roxanne, daughter Linda Greffen and husband Kirk; loving grandfather of Kristin Watson (Michael), Amanda Bauer (Samuel), Megan Greffen (Beau Fowler), Elena Greffen, and Alexis Greffen; affectionate great-grandfather to Hadley and Blakely Watson.
Harry was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the St. Alban Birmingham Lodge #233, the Tall Cedars, and Scottish Rite of Washington, DC. A Masonic Ceremony will be conducted on Wednesday during the 7:00 pm viewing.
Viewings will take place on Wednesday, August 28th from 3:00-5:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at Ambrose Funeral Home in Arbutus, MD. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 10:30 AM at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Good Shepherd UMC and/or the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of Johns Hopkins Hospital.
