On December 22, 2018, George Julian Kendrick passed into heaven, lovingly guided by his wife of 60 years, Naamah who he will get to spend Christmas with again this year. He was preceded in death by his first wife Floris E. Sevigny; loving father of Pam Schwartz and her husband Grant, Larry Kendrick and his wife Barbara, Ross Kendrick and his wife Terry, & Valerie Stocksdale and her husband Dick; cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and great grandfather of 20 great grandchildren; dear brother of Sam Kendrick and preceded in death by 2 other siblings. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
George (and his late wife Naamah) were known affectionately by all the locals and for such good reason. Proof of this is that a mural was painted to celebrate their steadfast loyalty to the Arbutus and surrounding communities. You can find this on the brick building on the right as you drive down East Drive in the center of town. They were the corner stone of Arbutus and all its affiliations. George was a longtime member of the American Legion Dewey Loman Post 109, he was a mason with Howard Lodge 101, was the mastermind behind the 4th of July Parade and up until recently was the Grand Marshall. To say he was involved in the Arbutus Athletic Association would be a massive understatement. George was a dedicated coach for generations of athletes who deeply cherished their time with him. In his honor, the Arbutus Middle School field and Arbutus Recreation Center was named after him. To know George was to love him. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of his life & he was also theirs. He is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Family members and friends will gather at Arbutus United Methodist Church on Thursday January 3rd and Friday January 4th from 3-5 and 7-9PM to honor George's life with a public viewing. The service will be in the same location on Saturday January 5th at 11AM. Interment will immediately follow in the Loudon Park Cemetery.
