Gary Lee Knickman passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.Gary was born August 22, 1952 in Baltimore, MD son of the late William N. Sr., and Etta A. (French) Knickman. Gary resided most of his life in the Baltimore area. He and his wife enjoyed their second home in Lewes, DE on the weekends for 9 years, eventually moving there permanently 5 years ago.Gary began a 15 year career with UPS at the Baltimore Hub loading trucks at night and eventually retired as a manager. He also served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era.
In earlier years, Gary enjoyed bowling and weightlifting winning several championships in each. Gary had a love for being on the water, fishing and crabbing, and taking cruises with his wife Gloria. Gary’s other passion was restoring classic cars. He was a founding member of the the Street Survivors of Maryland, a club which he was very proud, and that continues in its successes today. Gary also was very active with Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown, DE and enjoyed serving as an usher and greeter.In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Knickman, Janet Allers and Annette Baggett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gloria (Roberts) Knickman; daughter Joy (Knickman) Roche and her husband Charlie Roche; grandson, Aidan Roche; two brothers, William Ronald Knickman and William Charles Knickman; his beloved dachshund, Stanley; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947 on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 12 noon – 2 pm followed by a celebration of Gary’s life at 2 pm, ending with a lunch at 3pm.
A visitation will also be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 3 pm – 5 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm at the Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Road, Baltimore, MD 21227 with a sharing of memories of Gary starting at 7:30 pm.
