Fred and his beloved Maritta had their first dance in a festival tent in Sudlengern, Germany in August 1951. Their families immediately predicted the relationship would be special. They were so right. The two married in 1956, then embarked by steamship on a 63-year honeymoon to America.
At home, Fred was happiest when the family table was filled with children and grandchildren, as at the blessed Christmas we shared last year. When travelling, he loved to share with family the astonishing wonder of God’s creation -- camping, hiking and canoeing the National and State Parks all over the nation. A career electrician, he used his building expertise to expand and improve his cherished Sycamore Avenue home, which he surrounded with gardens of flowers. Then he chose new tools during retirement, expressing his vision of nature’s beauty in oil painting, watercolor and stained glass.
Fred was the beloved husband of Maritta Gehne, loving father of Frank and his wife Lisa, David and his wife Mary, and Wil and his wife Roxanne; cherished Opa of Aaron, Matthew, James, Max, & Anneliese and Uropa of Mackenzie; preceded in death by his siblings and parents; also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
