Francis Thomas Annulis (Tom) died peacefully on January 19th. Tom was the devoted husband of more than 54 years to Betty Annulis (nee Hlafka) and loving father of five sons: Tom (Kate), Brian (Julie Ann), Mark (KrisAnn), Jim (Lisa), and Dennis (Jen). He was a beloved patriarch and loyal friend to many. In addition to being a dedicated father, he was a beloved brother to Mary Hughes (Bob), and grandfather (Pop) to 16: Andrew, Sam, Connor, Matthew, Calvin, Thomas, Therese, Peter, Lawrence, Joseph, Natalie, Brendan, Luke, Ryan, David, and Jacqueline.
Tom was born and raised in Baltimore. He was the son of Mary and Frank Annulis. He attended St. Martin’s Elementary School and went on to graduate from Loyola High School. Tom received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland and subsequently received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He worked for 45 years in the defense industry as an employee of Northrop Grumman (formerly Westinghouse). He resided with his wife and family in Halethorpe, MD and in later years moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD.
Affectionately known as “Father T”, the nickname was rooted in the fact that his heart and mind were invested in his family and friends. It was a term of endearment used by even his co-workers. He loved being with his family at Ravens’ games and the beach. Tom will always be remembered as a steadfast worker, for his strong belief in education, and strength in tough times. He was not known for his cooking skills, but everyone craved his Friday night pizza.
Importantly, Tom was a man of deep faith. He was a long-time parishioner of Ascension Catholic Church in Halethorpe, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 26th at 10:00 AM. The family will host a viewing at Ambrose Funeral Home in Arbutus on Friday the 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, and then from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Unfortunately, Tom’s final years were marked by progressive mental and physical decline due to Lewy Body Dementia. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association ( www.LBDA.org ).
