Ethel B. Thacker

March 16, 1930 — August 22, 2024

On August 22nd, 2024, Ethel B. Thacker passed away. Born to the late Ethel and John Halbig, she was the loving wife of Henry Thacker, Jr.; devoted mother of the late Thomas Thacker, and Barbara Glanzmann and her husband Ray.

Ethel is survived by several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She counted many good friends and neighbors whom she cherished. Ethel loved Saint Clement Church, Lansdowne. She and Henry served as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion- and enjoyed helping at the parish "turkey dinners." Also, Ethel enjoyed participating in the Ladies Sodality at St. Clement, and was devoted to Jesus through the holy rosary and miraculous medal of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a child, Ethel attended St. Clement grade school. When her children Tommy and Barb went there, Ethel served as a "lunch mom" and "recess chaperone." Ethel worked for a time at Montgomery Ward, and the former local Coca Cola plant with her late Aunt Louise Watson. She recalled recently how they would walk to and from the job and reveled in the comraderie with coworkers.

Ethel met Henry through her late brother Lawrence who worked at Black and Decker, Towson with Henry. Both men had completed military service. During Henry's Air Force enlistment, Ethel took a train to join him and lived on base for a time in Charleston, South Carolina. Ethel was born in a house on what is now Hillendale Avenue, Lansdowne. That house was moved to Charleston Avenue where it remains. She grew up further down Hillendale. Eventually, Henry learned the bricklaying trade from Ethel's father John, and together they built their new Hillendale house in which Ethel and Henry lived together for 74 years of marriage. Ethel loved children, family, friends, nature, and all members of the church. Any donation in her honor to the Arbor Day Foundation, Saint Jude Children's Hospital, or to Saint Clement 1 Church are greatly appreciated:
