Harold Emory Sterner ("E"), beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many passed away after nearly 5 years of illness on August 12th, 6 days before his 88th birthday. He led a remarkable life. After growing up in rural Pennsylvania and losing his older brother in World War II, E enlisted in the military, serving in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines, a tradition that his eldest sons followed when enlisting in the Marine Corps and Army. Although he only had a middle school education, later in life he ran a successful family tree removal company for many years. E was a loving father to his six children, Steve, Danny, Terry, Denise, J.R, and Tanya, and to so many other families that called him "dad" or "pop pop". In addition to his children, he leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at Garrison Forrest Veteran Cemetery on Thursday at 10:45am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harold’s memory to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10006 or National Veterans Foundation, 5777 West Century Boulevard Suite 350, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
