Doris Anna Hollis, 94, died of natural causes January 21, 2021 at Caritas House Assisted Living in Baltimore. She was born Doris Anna Teufer, March 27,1926, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Caroline and Jules Teufer. Doris graduated from Western Girls School at age sixteen, and after graduation, married Austin Daus Hollis. The couple spent several years in rural Saginaw, Michigan, where Austin, a Corporal in the Army, was stationed at a POW camp for German officers. She and Austin were married on July 15,1944, by Pastor Hugo Schroeder, who would later baptize their three children.
After the war, Doris and Austin returned to Baltimore, and built the house where they would live for the next 70 years. They traveled extensively, enjoying camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
Doris was predeceased by her husband. She was a loving mother to her son Mark Austin Hollis and his wife, Cynthia, of Arbutus, Maryland, her daughter Kelsey Jean Roos, of Frederick, Maryland, and her son Richard Jule Hollis and his wife, Janet, of North Liberty, Iowa. She was the beloved “Mommom” to her three grandchildren, Suzanne Hollis, Austin Swanson, and Jennifer Miller, and one great grandchild, JJ Miller.
Friends and family may visit on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Ambrose Funeral Home at 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd., Arbutus, MD 21227, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
