Dora Willie Mae Jones was born on June 22, 1936 in Victoria, Virginia to the late Earnest and Dora Hardy. She departed this life to be with the Lord on November 25, 2020.
Dora was educated in the public schools of Lunenberg County, Virginia. She graduated from Lunenberg High School. In her youth, she attended worship services at West Hill Baptist Church in Victoria, Virginia. In her adult years, she attended Browns Memorial Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dora was married on August 8, 1955 to the late William H Jones in Washington, DC. Shortly thereafter they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they would establish roots and grow a family. They were married for 59 years until William Jones passed in early 2015. Their union was blessed with four children. They always kept God first in their lives.
Dora was blessed to have a caring and helpful heart. She worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as a nurses’ aide for several years. Her ability to nurture was a wonderful gift. She used this gift often as she became a licensed day care operator in 1976. She provided loving care and discipline to many, many children. She was fondly known to them all as Momma Dora. She was also very involved in the care and upbringing of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was truly the center of the family.
Dora loved cooking and baking. She enjoyed family gatherings such as birthdays and holidays. The family could always expect lots of good food and plenty of laughter. She loved to listen to music. Gospel and 60’s Soul music were some of her favorites. She enjoyed watching Baltimore Ravens football games and pro wrestling on TV. Dora had a green thumb and was able to make any plant grow no matter how small into a healthy green plant. She loved growing flowers and other plants in her garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dora Hardy, her husband, William H Jones, 5 brothers, Will, Earnest Jr, Jasper, Roosevelt, and James; 7 sisters, Lizzie (Pearl), Annie Mae, Maud(Virginia),Louise, Hellen(Inez), Patty, and Irene.
She leaves to mourn one sister; Alice, 4 sisters-in-law; Eva, Otelia (Bunny), Jennida (Daisy), and Agnes. 4 brothers-in-law; Curtis, Pete (Welcome), David (June) and Gary. Four daughters; Drusilla, Dora (Laurice), Jeannette (Stacy), and Trinia. 14 grandchildren; Danielle, Eugene, Jason, William, Stanley, Rena, Jasmine, Cameron, Briana, Jonathan, Keira, Kayla, Gabrielle, and Quade. 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Road, Halethorpe, MD 21227 on Wednesday from 6-9pm. Due to Covid please have a face mask on during all times. Only 50 people are allowed in the building at one time.
