William "Bill" Fleming Wingard, of Baltimore, MD died at the age of 96 on May 30th 2013 at his residence in Charlestown Retirement Community Born August 18th 1916, Pottstown, PA to William and Caroline. Losing his parents at eight years old Bill was adopted by his Aunt Jean and Uncle Winford H. Smith, director of Johns Hopkins Hospital (1911-46). He attended Calvert School and Gilman in Baltimore, continued his education at MIT earning his bachelors in mechanical engineering and masters in petroleum engineering. He also served as class president. He was an early pioneer of horizontal drilling for the oil business in the mid-west. In 1945 he joined United Carr Fastener, Ucinite Division in Boston, and became president of 500 employees. In 1963 he moved back to Baltimore to care for Aunt Jean, started Wingard & Co. and developed the patented hydroblanking process for manufacturing metal stampings. Bill retired in his 80's to care for his ailing wife. Beloved husband of the late Abigail (1916-1950) and Anita (1915-2000), father of Mary Jane (1941-2000), and grandfather to Abigail Coleman (1976-1978). Bill is survived by Mary Jane's two sons, David and Thomas; his son William Jr. and his wife Karen and his children, Susanna, Rose, Jean, Will and Margaret; his daughter Patricia and her husband Michael Coleman and her two children, Anne Sophie and Thomas; his son Joe and his wife JoAnne. Bill is also survived by his four great grandchildren, Jack, Beatrice, Hailey and William. Funeral: Monday, June 3; Visitation 10:30 a.m., Service 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228. Burial at New Cathedral Cemetery.
