On the morning of August 1, 2020, Barbara “Bobbie” Scheufele passed away peacefully at the age of 79. She was born an Arbutus girl in 1940 to the late William and Betty Krueger (nee Smith) and was the big sister to siblings Jeanne Drinane, Cheri Gisriel, & Bill Krueger. Her family regularly spent time singing as they grew up and anytime they reunited, you could always count on sweet harmony. On June 20, 1959 she married her soulmate, the late R. Wayne Scheufele, and they lovingly raised three daughters, Dawn Smith, Laura Scheufele, and Carol Palmer. She referred to their husbands Brad Smith, Roger Salyer, and Ben Palmer as her “sons in heart.”
Bobbie was a devoted “MeMe B” to Taylor Smith and Logan Smith; caring step-grandmother to Karl, Holly and Katie; and proud step-great grandmother of 9.
Anyone who knew Bobbie quickly learned she was happiest when surrounded by family and friends after cooking them a fabulous meal. She had a special place in her heart for all children and was a beloved Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. Her generosity and thoughtfulness were well known, as was her love for her country. Bobbie’s favorite pastimes included curling up with a good book (especially mysteries), watching the Hallmark TV channel, cooking and experimenting with new recipes, singing, gardening, and enjoying nature. She once said, “nature takes my breath away, whether it’s a sunrise, sunset, stars in the sky, or even a flower.” With this unique way of looking at the world she took pleasure in the smallest things, such as watching the birds while sitting on her screened porch.
Bobbie is also survived by Leslie Everheart, her beloved sister-in-law, as well as many other loving family members & friends.
A future Celebration of Life for Bobbie is planned, tentatively, on what would have been her next wedding anniversary, June 20, 2021. Nothing would bring her more joy than having her family & friends come together near the beach to sing, dance, hug, and enjoy good food. Details to follow.
If you wish to make a donation, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s name to the Selbyville Public Library in Delaware or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
