Rev. Dr. Arthur Wagner Scherer, age 80, passed away on January 10, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Arthur lived in the Arbutus and Catonsville area for more than 40 years, serving as Holy Nativity Lutheran Church pastor from 1978 to 1993. He later became active in serving the larger church in leadership, preaching, teaching, and consulting roles. Recently, he helped form the non-profit Mid-Atlantic Lutherans in Mission (MALIM), an organization which works with regional Lutheran schools and churches to support their mission and ministry.
Arthur was born on September 16, 1939 in Staten Island, NY to the late Ruth Scherer (nee Sweatman) and to the late Adam Valentine Scherer. Beloved husband of Linda D. Scherer; loving father of Benjamin Scherer and wife Katie and Audrey Tetteh and husband Samuel; cherished grandpa of JT Scherer, Zachary Scherer, Abigail Tetteh and Nathan Tetteh; dear brother of Henry Scherer. Also, survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Family members and friends will honor Arthur's life at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, 1200 Linden Ave., Arbutus, Maryland 21227 with a public viewing at the church on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 2pm-4pm & 6pm-8pm where a funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 beginning at 10 am. Interment to follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
