Anna B. Miller, age 92, peacefully passed away on December 2nd, 2021. Anna was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Frank Blackert & the late Ida Blackert (nee Herz). She is the devoted wife of the late Edward F. Miller; loving mother of Barbara Lohorn (& her late husband Ken Lohorn) & Theresa Spliedt (& her husband Joe); caring grandmother of Kate McGee (& her husband Matthew), Tracy Burke (& her husband Kenny), Michael Spliedt (& his wife Sarah), Patrick Spliedt (& his wife Morgan), Christina Camonayan (& her husband John); cherished great-grandmother of Alyssa Burke, Sidney Spliedt, & Carol Spliedt.
Anna Elizabeth Blackert was born on May 13, 1929. She was the second child of Frank and Ida Blackert. She grew up on Strickland Street in Irvington, Baltimore City, Maryland. Anna received 12 years of Catholic education – attending grade school at St. Joseph’s Monastery and then high school at the Institute of Notre Dame (“IND”). She was very pleased to have won an academic scholarship for her senior year at IND.
After graduating IND in 1947, she worked at Sun Life Insurance Company. Anna met the love of her life, Edward F. Miller, a World War II veteran, in August of 1947 at a dance held at the Cahill Recreation Center. After a brief courtship, Edward proposed, and the couple was married on April 29, 1950. They shared 64 wonderful years together. Edward and Anna loved together, raised a family together, worked together, and served the community together. Always together.
Although she was most often found at her husband’s side, Anna still devoted time to her family and to community service. Her community service included Ascension School PTO, Ascension School’s first library, Girl Scouts, Lions Club/Lioness Club, Catholic Daughters, Our Daily Bread, Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Community, etc. Her philosophy is life could be summed up as “Make the World a Better Place.” We can honor her memory by following in her footsteps and “Make the World a Better Place.”
Family & friends may gather at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 711 Maiden Choice Ln, Catonsville, MD 21228 for a gathering on Thursday, December 16th from 10:30-11:00am.
